Do students need a diagnosis to work with Plum & Ivy?

No. While many students have diagnosed ADHD, learning differences, or executive function challenges, a diagnosis is not required. When a diagnosis is present, it helps inform the scope of our work and the strategies we employ, but it does not define the student or the support provided. Every engagement is individualized and designed around the student's unique needs.

No. Plum & Ivy supports the full scope of the college experience, including both academic and academic-adjacent responsibilities that students often overlook or delay. This can include securing disability accommodations, applying for study abroad programs, managing course selection and scheduling, and preparing materials for internships or undergraduate research opportunities. The goal is to ensure students are not only keeping up with coursework, but also accessing the opportunities and structures that shape their overall college experience.

Each Concierge Plan is customized based on the student’s needs, level of complexity, frequency of meetings, and scope of services. Support is offered through semester-based packages with tiered levels of engagement. Following the initial consultation, a specific recommendation is made based on what will best support the student’s success over the course of the term.

What if my student is resistant to receiving help?

It is not uncommon for college students to feel some hesitation about engaging in structured academic support. For many, this can stem from concerns about added workload, discomfort with being observed in their process, or a sense of embarrassment around needing help despite being capable and intelligent.  Plum & Ivy is designed with sensitivity to that experience. The work introduces organization, accountability, and academic structure in a way that is steady, respectful, and highly individualized to the student.As students become more comfortable with the process and begin to experience greater clarity, consistency, and control over their academic responsibilities, initial resistance often softens and engagement becomes more natural over time.
